Why join Barrier-Free?

Jared participates in many Barrier-Free programs and has found a wonderful group of mentors and peers to work with.  Everyone is friendly and welcoming.  The value of the social component of having such a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow can't be underestimated.

Social Club FAQ

Q: I'm new and have never attended a Barrier-Free program before, can I join a social club?
A: Social club participants must attend Barrier-Free's Life Skills & Social Studio weekly for a minimum of 3 months before being eligible to join social clubs.  Due to the size and scale of our events, we are not able to accomodate "new-to-Barrier-Free members" for the first time at a social club.

Q: How much will Social Club cost?
A: Each Social Club outing will have a registration cost to attend based on the event.  Registration covers the cost of the activity (tickets, dining, etc.), carpooling/parking, and staffing.  Our staff volunteer to facilitate social clubs, but are not expected to cover their cost of attendance.  Therefore, a small amount is built in to each participant's registration to cover staffing.

Q: How will Social Club outings be determined?
A: Social Club events will be based on group interest/input, community events, season, and any other pertinent factors.

Q: When will Social Club outings occur?
A: Outings will occur monthly during the evening or a weekend. Day of the week may vary.

Q: What if I am not interested in one of the Social Club outings?
A: That is okay! Participants sign-up for outings on a month-to-month basis, no long-term commitment required.

Q: Will transportation be provided?
A; Each Social Club will have a meet-up location. Transportation to the meet-up location is not provided. Carpooling is typically to and from the Life Skills & Social Studio.  Please indicate carpooling interest when registering.

Q: Can my family members and friends register for Social Clubs?
A; The mission of Barrier-Free's Social Club is for neurodiverse individuals to engage in society with increasing independence.  When family members attend, it stifles the productive struggle and growth of our participants.  For these reasons, family members are asked not to attend social clubs.
